Let the Goodbyes Begin...

Well, today was a sure sign that I'm really leaving, and leaving soon. I remember when this started happening last time I moved to Asia, when everytime I saw someone they would ask if it would be our last time together, when people started measuring the time from now until my departure date in weeks, when I took pictures with people because it truly was our last time together.
This is my sweet friend Erin MacAnally, who was also my roommate in China. Fitting that she should be my first friend goodbye. Erin is moving to Hawaii this sunday for 9 months to go to school. She's pursuing an upper degree of some sort in Asian politics. From January 06 on, she'll be travelling and maybe even living in Thailand, Laos, China, etc. But she'll be spending her next few months on the beautiful hawaiian islands. We spent the afternoon together today and I'm reminded of just what a kind woman she really is: sweet. Goodbye Erin! See you in Asia!
Today at work Mrs. Barnett said, "you leave 3 weeks from today." I hadn't really thought about it that way, but she's right! hmmm....that makes me wanna cry.
I'm sitting at the unnamed coffee shop, about to watch a documentary on skateboarders and do some IMB work. I really want to go to church this evening because Kairos is starting up, but I mostly go for the socializing, and I'm determined to spend my time more wisely than using church to give me a social life. That always leads me to forgetting why I'm at church. But tonight, the wisdom and fellowship would be a nice balm to my slightly aching heart...but this latte is good and the sun is shining onto my back and I think I'm in a good place for now.
Love to you all,
Ashley

Ashley, I do not even know where to start. Your blog is fantastic. I had no idea how real and altering your experiences have been. I now understand you, and who you are so much more. Thank you for that. I can only hope that one day I am able to experience but a fraction of the things you blog about. I have to be honest, this is my first experience with blogs, and you have been so gentle and kind. I truly appreciate you for that. As our friendship has grown, I have come to realize how truly Godly you are and how strong you are. You are an inspiration to us all, and a true gift from God. I remember when we first met at the Bible study and the spiritual glow that radiated from a woman who truly knows God, and what it is to live for God and through God. I knew at that moment that we were destined to be spiritually connected as brother and sister in Christ, and we have not looked back. As I sit here, pondering that fact that you will be leaving for an extended time, I am overcome with emotion. I do not know where the times will take us. I have no idea if I will even be here when you get back. Before you go though, I want you to know that you will always hold a special place in my heart. You were there for the hard times and the hard times in my spiritual walk (as they have all become lately). For that I say a grateful thanks. I know that spiritual growth is sometimes hard and painful as things are now, but you have been there every step of the way. Muchas gracias. Now as you leave, I just want to say that I will be there with you, in prayer, in spirit, and in love. I will think of you often and pray for you even more. I will inquire of your situation to no end. I will be there building you up and encouraging you though you might not hear it or see it physically, you will feel it spiritually. I can never repay you for all that you have done, but I will do all that a spiritual brother would and can. I know that God is going to use you in such a mighty way that I grow jealous of your future experiences. I greatly admire and respect you for answering the call that God has put in your heart. If only other women would stand up and follow God as you are doing. Fare thee well my sister, until circumstances bring us together again.

Ashley,
I saw you in church the other day and I was thinking of how few more times I'll get to see you. You are such an inspiration, not only to the younger generation, but folks in mine, and your dad's - wierd!

Great to see you and waving today on Franklin road - won't miss that lunch-time traffic will you? I'm praying over your car, we just lost our 380K miler two weeks ago. Sad day for the circus!

Look forward to seeing you this Sunday, going to the fair on "church bulletin" day?
